Wonder at Club 21’s ‘Art of the T’ in the Singapore Biennale’s Containart Pavilion

Club 21, the Singaporean luxury retail company, will be supporting as well as participating in second Singapore Biennale (SB2008) from 11th September to 16th November 2008. Club 21 will be presenting the ‘Art of the T’ exhibition.

Among fashion and design cognoscenti, so-called ‘art T's’ are collected and traded at many times their original price. With this in mind, Club 21 will curate and exhibit a carefully selected series of T-shirts created by influential contemporary design collectives. Creators include Kulte in France, House of the Gods in the United Kingdom, Bungalow50 in Japan and in the United States, 2K by Gingham and Threadless.

‘Art of the T’ consists six installations within the containers that comprise the Pavilion structure. One of the containers will house a dynamic, interactive T shirt-related experience by Make Studio and commissioned by Club 21.

In addition to sponsoring and designing the official Biennale T-shirt, Club 21 has also created a limited edition commemorative Shigeru Ban T-shirt. The graphic echoes Ban’s signature tube design; the T-shirt features a tubular ‘21’ and is presented in special tube packaging. A selection of T-shirts featured at the exhibition will be available for sale on-site at the Containart Pavilion, selected Biennale venues, as well as Club 21 stores from September.

The exhibition will be housed in the Containart Pavilion - designed by pre-eminent Japanese architect Shigeru Ban - constructed using 150 twenty-foot long shipping containers and 34 ten-metre recyclable paper tubes.  Containart Pavilion will be located at the Central Promontory Site of Marina Bay.
