Crowbar Winners - Where Are They Now?

Ngai Arh Chun (Ya Jun) is the Best of Show - Advertising winner for the 2004 Crowbar Awards. When he graduated from Temasek Polytechnic in Visual Communications, he didn’t expect to be hired so soon. But after his win at the Crowbars, the offers started pouring in. He now works at Euro RSCG as an Art Director and now finds himself working with clients such as Volvo, Tiger Airways and F&N.

What inspired you to participate in the Crowbar Awards?
Actually, it was more who, than what. It was my partner who introduced me to the Crowbar Awards.

Nintendo Gameboy Advance - Jump, Soccer, Fight
Crowbar Awards 2004, Gold - Print/Press
Crowbar Awards 2004, Silver - Integrated Campaign
Crowbar Awards 2004, Bronze - Poster Non-Transit

How has winning the Crowbar Awards helped you in your career?
We all know it’s hard to get into the industry; the Crowbar Awards is definitely one of the fastest ways to get your foot in.

Heaven & Earth (Clear Your Mind, Refresh Your Soul)

Do you think the Crowbar Awards is a good platform for creative students to break into the creative industry and would you recommend them to participate in the Crowbar Awards? If yes, what advice would you give them?
The Crowbar Awards is judged by industry professionals. It’s an invaluable recognition of your creativity and also a great benchmark by which you can measure yourself against the competition. It really prepares you for the ever-competitive agency environment. My advice to students is to participate with their best works, only then will you be discovered!

Did the internship program at Fallon Minneapolis sharpen your creativity/skills?
A real eye-opener. We met some of the most passionate creative heads at Fallon Minneapolis and got a chance to “yam cha” with Pat Fallon. But the most important lesson I took away from the experience was to always stay passionate, curious and humble.

What are you currently working on? Tell us more about it.
I’m currently working on projects for Volvo, Tiger Airways, F&N and Far East Organization. I’m also working on some personal projects with friends. I’m always on the lookout for new creative opportunities in every brief I receive.

Where do you get inspiration for new ideas?
Feeling, playing and experiencing. I’m always inspired by great ideas from people around me, and I’m lucky to have some very energetic and passionate friends and seniors who keep me motivated all the time. They are a great help in generating new ideas.
