4As is pleased to welcome its first music industry member, Universal Music, as its newest affiliate member.
Universal Music is currently owned by French conglomerate Vivendi, a global media and communications company. Operating in 77 countries, Universal Music is the world’s largest group of recording labels, representing 98% of the music market. The company discovers, develops, markets and distributes recorded music, as well as sells and distributes music and DVD products. Its businesses also include Universal Music Publishing Group, the industry’s leading global music operation.
Universal Music’s Artist Roster includes international sensations like Justin Bieber, Black Eyed Peas, Bon Jovi, Lady Gaga, Eminem and Rihanna. The company also represents several regional artists such as Masarahu Fukuyama, Kelly Chen, and Vanessa Amorosi, amongst others.
On the local front, Universal Music Singapore started off with MCA Records back in 1995, which included labels such as Geffen, Interscope, GRP and Impulse. A year later, its name was change to Universal Music [S] Pte after Seagrams took over. In 1999, the global group was officially renamed Universal Music Pte Ltd.
Customer interaction is very important for Universal Music Singapore, and their Facebook page and regional website are testaments of this. The company organises several contests, through which consumers can win concert tickets, backstage passes, and CDS. Daily updates on their twitter and facebook pages also keep consumers engaged and aware of the Company’s activities.
As the biggest recording label and organiser of the main local live music events, Universal Music Singapore sponsors musicians who come to perform in the country. They also partnered with Singtel in 2009 to launch AMPed, an interactive music experience for post paid mobile customers. In addition, the music company plays an integral role in organising the iconic Annual ‘F1 rocks’ concert, which takes place during the Formula1 Grand Prix weekend each year.
