Crowbar Winners – Where Are They Now?

Following our first 2 installments of “Crowbar Winners – Where are They Now” we bring the focus to Ko Min Jung, the Korean lady who in 2001, walked away with 5 awards at the inaugural Crowbar Awards.

Since her win at the 2001 Crowbars, Min Jung has gone on to win at other creative awards such as The One Show, D&AD and Cannes , and in 2004, won Best New Art Director at the Creative Circle Awards (CCA). She is now currently Senior Art Director at Bates.

1. What inspired you to participate in the Crowbar Awards?
To enter the advertising industry. Coming from Korea , I wanted to introduce myself to Singapore 's advertising industry and felt that entering an award show such as the Crowbars would be the best platform to expose my work.

2. How has winning the Crowbar Awards helped you in your career? Preparing my works to enter the Crowbars gave me a lot of experience. I learnt that execution is very important, and it's not just about the idea. From learning to execute my ideas while preparing for the competition, it equipped me for the real working world.

3.Do you think the Crowbar Awards is a good platform for creative students to break into the creative industry and would you recommend them to participate in the Crowbar Awards? If yes, what advice would you give them?

Of course! The Crowbar judges are well-known creatives and your work gets good exposure having them judge it. Be prepared to work hard. It's not as glamorous as you may think it is.

I've seen many students preparing for the Crowbar Awards and I think the 4As should continue promoting it.

5. What are you currently working on? Tell us more about it.
I'm currently working on TVCs and print ads for Nokia and Heineken for global markets.

6. Where do you get inspiration for new ideas?
From daily experiences. Books, movies, exhibitions, it helps instill ideas into me. It's a daily research that has become a hobby.
